Cumbres Iberoamericanas is an independent editorial site about the Ibero-American cultural world — the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries either side of the Atlantic, taken as one cultural space rather than a political one. We write about language and how it diverged, food that crossed and changed, music forms and where they actually came from, and cities that share a grammar and argue about everything else.
The interesting part, to us, is always the divergence: the same word meaning two things, the same dish cooked two ways, the same instrument renamed on arrival. We are curious, well-travelled and unromantic about it. Where a Spanish or Portuguese word is simply the right word — azulejo, saudade, choro — we use it, and gloss it in English the first time.
An independent cultural publication about the Ibero-American world. Not affiliated with, or representing, any government, summit, secretariat or intergovernmental organisation.
